JD Vance Says Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal Will Leave Both Sides Unhappy, warning that any settlement between Moscow and Kyiv is unlikely to please either side. Speaking on Fox News’ Sunday Morning Futures, the U.S. Vice President said the aim was to find a deal both countries could accept, even if it left them frustrated.

“It’s not going to make anybody super happy. Both the Russians and the Ukrainians, probably, at the end of the day, are going to be unhappy with it,” Vance said.

Trump-Putin Meeting in Alaska

U.S. President Donald Trump announced he will meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on August 15 in Alaska to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Trump claimed the two countries were close to a ceasefire that could end the three-and-a-half-year conflict, even if it meant Ukraine giving up significant territory.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy quickly pushed back, saying Ukraine’s constitution bars giving away land. “Ukrainians will not gift their land to the occupiers,” Zelenskiy declared.

Why Vance Thinks Both Sides Will Be Unhappy

In his Fox News interview, JD Vance Said Russia-Ukraine Peace Deal Will Leave Both Sides Unhappy because any realistic agreement will involve compromises neither Moscow nor Kyiv wants to make. Vance revealed the U.S. is working to arrange talks involving Putin, Zelenskiy, and Trump, but said it would not be “productive” for Putin to meet Zelenskiy before speaking with Trump.

“We’re at a point now where we’re trying to figure out, frankly, scheduling and things like that, around when these three leaders could sit down and discuss an end to this conflict,” Vance explained.

A Risky Path to Peace

The White House confirmed Trump is open to a summit with both leaders, but for now, the focus is on the one-on-one meeting requested by Putin. Critics of this approach worry it could give Russia more influence over the terms before Ukraine even enters the talks. Supporters argue that a staged process might speed up a deal.
