A United States Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance’s security team has been placed on administrative leave and is under internal investigation over allegations of leaking information about the vice president’s movements to the media.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the agency’s internal affairs unit is handling the review, while another source confirmed that officials have identified an individual suspected of disclosing details related to Vance’s travel schedule.

Authorities have yet to determine whether the investigation will result in disciplinary action or criminal charges.

The agent is believed to have provided information used in a recent MS NOW report, which highlighted concerns among members of Vance’s security detail over the demands of the vice president’s personal travel itinerary.

The report also disclosed operational details, including plans for Vance to travel with his son aboard a Marine Corps helicopter to a golf lesson. The trip was ultimately cancelled.

The publication reportedly drew strong reactions from officials within the Secret Service, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the White House, who were said to be displeased that sensitive security information had appeared in the media.

The investigation comes as President Donald Trump’s administration continues efforts to clamp down on what it considers unauthorised disclosures of government information.

Earlier this month, four journalists from The New York Times were served subpoenas to appear before a federal grand jury as part of an investigation linked to their reporting on security features aboard a new presidential aircraft donated to Trump by Qatar.
