At MetLife Stadium, Chelsea defeated Fluminense 2-0, thus ending South America’s dream in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. This win by the English team took them to the final of the competition.
João Pedro was the main performer of the day against his former team and on his full debut for the Blues. The forward scored the first goal in the 18th minute after he received the ball from Pedro Neto and sent a powerful curling shot into the far corner of the goal that Fluminense goalkeeper could not save.
Though the side led by Enzo Maresca came close to scoring a second goal through Malo Gusto, Fluminense responded in kind. Hércules’ attempt was cleared off the line by Marc Cucurella during the save. Brazilians were convinced they had a right to a penalty after the ball hit Trevor Chalobah’s arm, however, after the intervention of the VAR the decision was reversed.
The advantage of Chelsea remained uninterrupted after the resumption. João Pedro scored his second goal in the 55th minute, following a quick counter-attack from his team that originated in Chelsea’s half, he then shot his ball off the crossbar.
Although Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku were given the chance to score, the Chelsea side could not bring in another goal. Fluminense failed to pose any threat to Chelsea during the last minutes
