German giant Borussia Dortmund have sealed the deal to get the services of Jobe Bellingham from Sunderland in a contract worth £30 million. The 19-year-old midfielder traces the steps of his elder brother, Jude Bellingham, who was the Bundesliga side’s main man from 2020 to 2023.
Dortmund have announced that Bellingham is to remain with the club for five years during their 2025 Club World Cup campaign. He is moving from Sunderland after a remarkable season in the Championship, where he netted four goals and handed out three assists in 43 games. He was fantastic to the degree that he was given the Championship Young Player of the Season accolade and he also contributed heavily to the Black Cats’ return to the Premier League by a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in last month’s play-off final.
On paper, Bellingham was outstanding with 257 duels won—surpassed only by his teammate Trai Hume—and 44 successful tackles out of 79 attempts. Bellingham took the opportunity to say thanks to the supporters of Sunderland in an emotional farewell for their being with him through thick and thin the past two years.
The side which ended up the league in the fourth position are now getting ready for the new format of the Club World Cup in the US. The first game for Dortmund in Group F against Fluminense, the Brazilian champions, will be on 17th June, then there will be Ulsan HD and Mamelodi Sundowns in the mix.
