England and Real Madrid midfielder Jude Bellingham has secured the prestigious 2024 Laureus World Sports Breakthrough of the Year award, solidifying his status as one of football’s emerging talents on the global stage. The 20-year-old sensation has swiftly established himself as a pivotal figure for Real Madrid since his blockbuster £89m transfer from Borussia Dortmund last summer.

Bellingham’s impact has been undeniable, with his recent stellar performances exemplifying his exceptional talent and potential. His crucial goal against Barcelona in the El Clasico showdown propelled his La Liga goal tally to an impressive 17 goals for the season, underscoring his significance to the Real Madrid squad.

Moreover, Bellingham played a pivotal role in Real Madrid’s triumphant Champions League campaign, notably contributing to their thrilling victory over Manchester City in the quarter-final stage. His remarkable achievements on the pitch have earned him widespread acclaim and recognition, culminating in the prestigious Laureus World Sports Breakthrough of the Year award.

In addition to Bellingham’s accolade, tennis ace Novak Djokovic clinched the Laureus World Sportsman of the Year award for the fifth time, while Spanish and Barcelona midfielder Aitana Bonmati secured the women’s equivalent.

Bonmati, the reigning Ballon d’Or recipient, played an instrumental role in Barcelona’s triumphant 2022-23 season, which saw them secure Liga F, the Spanish Cup, and the Women’s Champions League titles. Furthermore, she played a pivotal role in Spain’s historic Women’s World Cup victory, leading her team to glory and earning them the prestigious Laureus World Team of the Year award.

Reflecting on her achievement, Bonmati expressed her pride in being the first footballer to win the Laureus award, highlighting the significance of this milestone for women’s football. She emphasized her team’s commitment to equality and representation, both on and off the pitch, reaffirming their dedication to breaking barriers and inspiring future generations.
