The aggrieved Nigerians had taken to the streets to demonstrate against the hunger and economic hardship.

Some of these protesters included residents from Lagos State who had assembled in Ikeja, chanting for President Bola Tinubu to be unseated from power.

The protesters displayed placards bearing messages that read;
‘President Tinubu, let the poor breath’, and ‘Reverse all anti-people, Neoliberal policies of privatisation.’

One of the protesters had taken to his X page to post, saying;
“We called for it and we are on the street in Ikeja Under Bridge. The tyrannical and oppressive government of @officialABAT must be shown the way out. We are hungry and angry. WeAreHungryProtest. June12Protest.”

Why It Matters

The defiance of Nigerians against the warning from the Department of State Services (DSS) and their mass turnout on June 12 to protest the current state of the country underscores the depth of their grievances.

From Lagos to Abuja, citizens took to the streets to voice their frustrations over economic hardship and hunger. The protests for change signify a vital expression of democratic rights and a reminder of the imperative for leaders to address the pressing needs of their people.
