JUST IN: Tinubu Approves 50% Discount For Inter-state Transportation

President Bola Tinubu has announced a 50% discount in the fares charges by public buses on inter-state routes for the Yuletide season.

The Minister of Solid Minerals, Mr Dele Alake who made the announcement on Wednesday, observed that all the train routes were free as from Thursday December 21st 2023 to 4th January 2024.

Minister Alake also explained that air transportation was excepted as it was for affluent individual.

He thereafter stressed that the transport initiative was a presidential intervention on public transportation aimed at the masses, in the spirit of Christmas and the end of the year festivities.

In Alake’s words:

“President Bola Tinubu, had in another show of love for Nigerians, approved for the Federal Government to intervene to lowering the cost of public transportation so that our compatriots who wish to travel to visit their loved ones and hometowns can do so without the stress of worrying about the high cost of transport this period.

“The President is very aware of the recent surge in the cost of inter-state transportation and even for air travel. And we know that globally, intra-country travels and movement of people, goods and services always peak around Christmas and the year’s end because of the socio-gravitational pull of the period which transporters always cash on to hike fares significantly.”
