Popular singer Justin Bieber has just revealed that he has suffered from facial paralysis after canceling his shows, scheduled to happen this week. The 28-year-old pop star took to his official Instagram page to announce a 3-minute video. He said that the condition was due to a diagnosis of Ramsay Hunt Syndrome. He confessed to being able to blink with the eye on the affected part of his face but that he could not smile with that particular side of his face. “There is full paralysis on that side of my face,” He said while smiling and blinking, to show his social media fans, exactly how that part of his face wouldn’t move. He further added that it was the virus that attacked his ear nerves and facial nerves and led to the paralysis on his face.
Medical professionals have revealed that Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is brought about when a shingle outbreak affects the facial nerve near a person’s ears. Earlier this week, Justin’s Justice World Tour which began in February announced that it would be postponing three of Justin’s shows. Justin has asked his fans to exercise patience with him and talked about his forthcoming shows saying that he was, unfortunately, physically incapable to perform them. The popstar has however revealed that he has been doing facial exercises, to return to normal and that he was unsure of how long it will take him to recover.
According to Mayo Clinic, a U.S medical website, the symptoms of Ramsay Hunt syndrome could be temporary or permanent, depending. The website has further revealed that the Ramsay Hunt Syndrome could cause facial paralysis and hearing loss in the affected parts and additionally, a painful shingles rash.
