Governor Yusuf has promised to take action against people who don’t pay their taxes in 2025, to make tax collection more effective. Dr. Zaid Abubakar, Executive Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service, highlighted that these reforms have already improved revenue performance in late 2024.
The governor has created a new way to collect taxes, which is expected to bring in much more money and help keep the promises made during the campaign for different areas. In line with these efforts, a verification and registration exercise for expatriate businesses is underway, which will help make things work better and fix some rules that need improvement.
The government also discovered that some MDAs had operated revenue accounts outside designated IGR accounts, prompting the transfer of funds to newly opened accounts under the supervision of the Office of the Accountant General. Governor Yusuf assured taxpayers that the revenue will be used in important areas like water, cleaning, health, education, improving cities, and farming, starting in the first quarter of 2025.
