What They Are Saying

The drama unfolded when Justice Liman Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Kano decided to take a stand. He affirmed that Bayero, despite being dethroned, has every right to be heard. This decision came on Thursday, much to the delight of those who believe in justice and due process.

The case that led to this eye-opening judgement was brought forth by Aminu Baba Dan Agundi, a kingmaker determined to fight for Bayero’s fundamental human rights amidst the ongoing power struggle within the emirate. Agundi’s persistence paid off as the court sided with him, reinforcing the notion that even royalty isn’t above the law.

Adding another layer to this already tangled web, a Kano State High Court had earlier ordered a substituted service on Bayero and four other emirs. This was in response to a case filed by the Kano State Government, aimed at preventing them from parading themselves as emirs. Clearly, the battle for power in Kano’s royal circles is far from over.

Why It Matters

This case highlights the bitter feud within Kano’s emirate, where traditional titles and modern governance clash spectacularly. The Kano government’s attempt to muzzle Bayero and his peers has backfired spectacularly, resulting in a judicial slap on the wrist and a significant dent to their financial status.

Bottom Line

As the legal and royal wranglings continue, one thing is certain: the courts have made it clear that rights violations, even those targeting deposed royals, will not go unpunished. So, sit back and watch as this real-life royal drama continues to unfold, with more legal battles and perhaps more hefty fines on the horizon.
