Keir Starmer Appointed Prime Minister by King Charles III After Labour’s Landslide Victory

On Friday, the Labour party leader Keir Starmer was officially appointed prime minister by King Charles III during an audience at Buckingham Palace, following the defeat of the Conservative party in the just concluded polls.

The Transition of Power

Earlier in the day, the outgoing prime minister tendered his resignation to the king after an heartfelt speech at his former residence. After which, A photograph released by the palace captured the moment as the monarch shook hands with Starmer, marking his appointment following the Labour Party’s victory in the recent general election.

The Ceremony

The official ceremony took place at Buckingham Palace on July 5, 2024, the day after the general election. A statement from the palace detailed the proceedings: “The King received in Audience The Right Honourable Sir Keir Starmer MP today and requested him to form a new Administration.”

The statement further noted that “Sir Keir accepted His Majesty’s offer and kissed hands upon his appointment as Prime Minister and First Lord of the Treasury.”

Significance

The recent elections in Britian highlights the political shifts in Europe amidst economic meltdown. This dynamic echoes the sentiment of voters and their opinion of the government.
