Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Olalomi, better known as Portable, appeared at the Isabo Magistrate Court in Ogun on Thursday for arraignment.

The police declared Portable wanted on February 18 for allegedly assaulting three officials from the Ogun State Planning and Development Permit Authority (OGPDPA).

The singer surrendered to the police in Lagos on Wednesday before being transferred to the Ogun State Police Command and taken to court to face charges.

Portable was charged with five counts, including conspiracy, assault, restriction, possession of cutlasses and guns, and conduct likely to cause harm. He pleaded not guilty.

Following his not-guilty plea, Portable’s counsel, Oluwatoyin Ayodele, requested bail for him.

Ayodele informed the court that Portable was remorseful and had learned his lesson.

Magistrate O.L. Oke granted Portable bail at N2 million with one surety in the same amount. The case was adjourned to March 5 for trial.

The issue began on February 5 when OGPDPA officials attempted to seal Portable’s bar due to missing permits and inadequate air space.

Portable allegedly led a group in a violent attack on the unarmed officials, who sustained injuries but managed to escape.

The clash led to the arrest and arraignment of nine of Portable’s associates on a five-count charge, including armed violence, felony, obstruction, assault, and attempted murder.

Each of Portable’s associates was granted bail of N5 million, with sureties who are licensed bond agents registered with the state government. The hearing was postponed until March 17.

The singer had been on the run since February 5, providing various excuses, such as claiming to be a “madman” undergoing treatment at the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital in Abeokuta.

Portable recently announced his intention to seek the assistance of human rights lawyer Femi Falana. He had also earlier called on President Bola Tinubu to intervene in the case.
