Manchester City FC has also officially announced its farewell to the midfielder Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian playmaker announced the news on Friday in an emotional social media post titled “Dear Manchester” ending a decade-long, trophy trawling, at the Etihad Stadium.
De Bruyne’s contract expires this summer, and after months of speculation, the City captain announced, “These will be my final months as a Manchester City player.”
Signed from Wolfsburg in 2015, De Bruyne has played 413 games for the club, scoring 106 goals and making 169 assists. He has been the key to City’s historic period of dominance, winning 16 major trophies, including six Premier League titles, a Champions League title, two FA Cups and five EFL Cups.
De Bruyne is the fastest player to register 100 assists in the Premier League and currently boasts the best minutes-per-assist ratio in the league’s history (177). He is second in Premier League history in assists (118), trailing only Ryan Giggs.
Despite a number of injury problems, De Bruyne has set up seven goals during the 2024–25 season and made 56 chances in total in all competitions.
“All good things come to an end,” he wrote, “but this has certainly been the best chapter.”
