The Buckingham Palace has announced that King Charles, the British monarch, will resume public duties next week after being diagnosed with cancer earlier this year.
In February, the palace disclosed that the 75-year-old monarch had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer detected during tests following a corrective procedure for an enlarged prostate.
While King Charles continued with official state duties, the diagnosis prompted him to postpone public engagements to commence treatment and rest.

After undergoing treatment and a period of recuperation, the monarch has reportedly been making good progress and is now deemed fit enough to resume public duties.
A spokesperson from Buckingham Palace stated, “His Majesty’s treatment program will continue, but doctors are sufficiently pleased with the progress made so far that the king is now able to resume a number of public-facing duties.”
The spokesperson added, “His Majesty is greatly encouraged to be resuming some public-facing duties and very grateful to his medical team for their continued care and expertise.”
However, no further details about his condition or treatment were provided, in line with standard medical privacy protocols.
To mark his return, King Charles and Queen Camilla are scheduled to visit a cancer treatment center in London next Tuesday.
While it was confirmed that the Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako would pay a state visit in late June, King Charles will not carry out his usual summer program. Instead, his plans will be crafted in consultation with his medical team to minimize risks to his recovery.
The monarch’s absence coincided with news of his daughter-in-law, Kate, undergoing preventative chemotherapy after tests following major abdominal surgery revealed cancer.
As King Charles’s health scare occurred less than 18 months into his reign following his succession of his mother, the late Queen Elizabeth, and less than a year since his coronation, Buckingham Palace expressed gratitude for the kindnesses and good wishes received during the past year’s joys and challenges.
