The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps, (LAGESC) a.k.a KAI has sealed off Idera Market, located in the Oshodi area of the state for breaching environmental laws.
The news of this closure was made known by the Corps Marshal Major Olaniyi Cole, rtd, on Thursday, September 19, adding that the move was part of renewed efforts made to ensure adherence to environmental cleanliness across the registered markets in the state.
What They’re Saying
Mahor Cole had said,
‘‘Our operatives stationed across the Oshodi division during routine market monitoring identified the filth, unhygienic practices and indiscriminate dumping of refuse around the Idera Market area which prompted us to seal off the market until further notice’.”
He had also criticised the unimpressive level of hygiene at the market which he said was capable of causing illnesses and disease outbreaks to both market vendors and buyers alike.
This was further highlighted by the inability of the market to provide a valid waste collection contract, alluding to the infraction as the lead cause of refuse heaps in the market.
Finally, the KAI boss warned other markets across the state to maintain an acceptable level of hygiene as KAI operatives will regularly monitor market environments for rule breakers.
