According to the Lagos State Government, there are plans to ban the sale of plastic bottled drinks that have been exposed to direct sunlight.

This information was disclosed during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria -NAN, on Friday, October 28, in Lagos by the General Manager of the Consumer Protection Agency -LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo.

“Plastic bottled drinks exposed to continuous sunlight are a great danger to health and very cancerous. Therefore, this will be a part of our public enlightenment between now and the end of 2022. So that by 2023, we will not just confiscate such drinks, we will also prosecute individuals showing such products under the sun.”

“We desire to have a stakeholders’ meeting with the plastic bottle manufacturers to get alternatives like bringing in dummies of the products for distributors to display instead.

Solebo additionally stated that consumables that kill slowly should be avoided at costs.

Customers have been urged to ensure they always receive value for their money on all goods and services provided to them.

This news is coming as scientists and researchers have identified plastic bottles to be adverse to health because they mostly contain hormone-disrupting chemicals that can cause cancer, diabetes, ADHD, and autism.
