The Lagos State government has shut down Ogba City Mall in Ikeja and Ajah market, as well as in Etti-Osa, over miscellaneous waste disposal offences.
The action was enforced by a combined enforcement team of Lagos Waste Management Authority–LAWMA, State Task Force on Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences–LASTMA, and the Lagos Government Special Environmental Corps-KAI.
This news was contained in a statement issued by Director, Public Affairs of LAWMA, Mrs Folashade Kadiri, on Sunday, November 5, in Lagos.
According to Kadiri, shanties and illicit traders’ structures around Ajah BRT corridor and Ajah Jubilee Bridge had also been cleared by the enforcement team.
Mr Tokunbo Wahab, the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, while also speaking on the development, had remarked that the order was done in continuation of the administration’s onslaught on filth and indiscriminate waste disposal by markets and business enterprises in the state.
Wahab had also remarked that the governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu-led administration would not backpedal in the pursuit of the noble objective in superseding public good.
On his part, the Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin, had revealed that the zero tolerance campaign was an ongoing one, cautioning markets and business stakeholders to take steps to ensure a clean and hygienic premises.
