LeBron James and his son Bronny became part of NBA history on Tuesday – the first father-son duo to play in a regular-season game – as the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Minnesota Timberwolves 110-103. With Los Angeles leading 51-35 late in the second quarter, the James tandem checked into the court for the first time simultaneously in front of a roaring Crypto.com Arena crowd.
LeBron, who turns 40 in December, had an emotional moment with Bronny pre-check in, encouraging his son: “You ready? Just play carefree.” LeBron recollected the historic moment as unforgettable. “It’s something I’ll never forget, no matter how old I get.
Bronny, 20, contributed two shots off the bench in 2 minutes and 41 seconds in his regular-season debut, missing both, but he did appreciate some love from Lakers fans: “I totally did feel the energy.”
LeBron added that sharing the court with his son was a treat: “It’s been a treat. just being with him every day.”
That’s now more than a year since Bronny’s cardiac arrest, making the sight of him all the more remarkable in his NBA debut.
