A double from Robert Lewandowski inspired Barcelona to a convincing 4-0 triumph over Real Madrid at the Bernabéu to end Los Blancos’ record 42-game unbeaten run in the league and leave Barça a full six points clear at the summit of La Liga.
Real Madrid did look dangerous early on, with Kylian Mbappé seeing two efforts chalked off for offside before finding Thibaut Courtois’ crossbar from range. Yet it was Barcelona’s new boss Hansi Flick who came out on top tactically, and it was the Catalan backline which proved the most resilient during a first half in which they were often put on the back foot.
This was indeed the case until the deadlock was finally broken in the 54th minute when Marc Casadó laid a perfect pass to Lewandowski, who finished calmly past Andriy Lunin. Just two minutes later, Lewandowski struck again in brilliant style with a header from Alejandro Balde’s cross to give Barça a commanding 2-0 lead.
Real’s hopes were as good as gone when Lewandowski missed two close-to-goal chances before Lamine Yamal sealed the lead in the 77th minute with a powerful finish. Raphinha sealed it seven minutes later, coolly chipping over Lunin to seal the rout.
This was Real Madrid’s first loss at the Santiago Bernabéu since April 2023, while Barcelona relished their important win that snapped their five-game losing streak in El Clásico and underlined their title ambitions.
