The Premier League Liverpool beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 in an important result in the title race. It was their 16th victory in their last 17 encounters with Wolves.
The Reds were dominant from the outset and pounced to take the lead in the 12th minute in lucky circumstances when a mis-hit clearance from Toti Gomes fell nicely to Luis Díaz, who forced the ball over the line. The Colombian kept causing Wolves’ defense problems, creating a chance for Diogo Jota but a final block from Emmanuel Agbadou cleared it.
Liverpool’s second came before halftime when Salah converted a penalty after a foul by the Wolves goalkeeper, José Sá, in the area on Díaz. Wolves looked like responding, Matheus Cunha’s free-kick missed just wide and Marshall Munetsi being denied by Alisson.
The visitors eventually got one when Cunha curled a beautiful strike around the Liverpool keeper. Though shaky in the second half, Slot’s side clung on for three invaluable points, restoring their seven-point lead at the top.
The defeat for Wolves keeps them just above the relegation zone, while Liverpool march on in the pursuit of the Premier League title.
