The Lagos State Magistrates’ Court had on Thursday; May 18 directed for an extra 4 days remand of Seun Kuti in police custody.
Recall that the singer had been taken to court on Tuesday, May 16 for assaulting a policeman, Inspector Mohammed Aminu, on the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos state, and the Chief Magistrate, Adeola Olatubosun, had on that same day granted an order for the police to remand the defendant in custody for 24 hours which was supposed to elapse on Thursday.
But on Thursday, the police officer had approached the magistrate with a motion ex parte to extend the remand of the singer.
This motion ex parte was supported with a 12-paragraph affidavit and one exhibit.
And regardless of the defense counsel, Femi Akinyemi, who had held briefs for Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN), to pray the court to stand down on the case, the court had granted the application for a remand extension and had ordered Seun Kuti to be further remanded in police custody for an extra four days.
After which the case was adjourned till May 23, 2023.
