The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, is present, at the time of filing this report, briefing the Federal Executive Council, FEC headed by President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja.
This had been announced by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina after Buhari had arrived at the Council Chamber before the meeting began proper.
Yakubu is expected to brief the council on the commission’s readiness for the nationwide exercise with about 16 days left to the presidential polls.
Recall that Yakubu had on Tuesday, February 7 met with both Babagana Monguno, the National Security Adviser, and the Central Bank Governor, CBN, Godwin Emefiele, to express worries over the present cash scarcity which could affect the flow of logistics ahead of the February 25 elections after which he had received assurances from the NSA and CBN governor citing that adequate security would be provided and that cash would be made available for logistics purposes.
Additionally, Yakubu would be expected to come to the Council of State meeting on Friday, February 10, together with the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba, to discuss the presidential and National Assembly elections as well as the governorship and state houses of assembly poll.
