Governor Seyi Makinde from Oyo State believes that the planned protest on August 1 is due to widespread anger and hunger in the country. He shared this thought during the closing event of the 2024 Ibadan Cultural Week, which was held by the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII) at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium in Ibadan.
The governor respects the right to protest but wants the demonstrations to be peaceful. He asks protesters to avoid violence and damaging public property, as fixing these damages would take money away from important projects.
Makinde said, “The planned protest is because of the widespread anger and hunger in Nigeria. While protesting is a right, it should be done without violence.”
I implore protesters not to damage government buildings, because this would mean using money meant for important projects to fix the broken places.
The protest planned for August 1 is meant to talk about the tough times and hunger happening in the country. Governor Makinde’s words show that it’s important to share our problems in a calm and careful way.
