Mariah Carey gets sued over popular “All I Want for Christmas is you”

Andy Stone is suing the “All I Want for Christmas is You” popular songstress, Mariah Carey. The famous 1994 Christmas classic has been said to be co-written by Mr. Stone 5 years before with the same title. The complaint was filed at the New Orleans federal court and the prosecutor, Mr. Stone is seeking 20 million dollars at least from the record label: Sony Music Entertainment and Mariah Carey, who was also a co-writer for the song, claiming misappropriation among different grievances. 

Mr. Stone’s Lawyers made contact with the defendants about the ‘unauthorized use’ of the song, “All I Want for Christmas is You” in April of 2021 but were sadly ‘unable to agree’. It has however been stated that Mariah Carey and Andy stone’s songs both have exclusive melodies and lyrics. The song has appeared on Mariah’s album Merry Christmas which has been a massive hit because of its launch and had obtained enormous play at some stage in the Christmas season. It has moreover topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart every holiday season since 2019 regardless of how aged the tune has been. Andy stone has countered that his song with the same title as Mariah’s had additionally appeared on the Billboard Music charts and gotten ‘extensive airplay throughout the Christmas holiday season of 1993. 

The representative for Mariah Carey and Sony Music Entertainment are yet to respond to the lawsuit. Andy Stone’s attorneys likewise have no longer answered requests for further comments. The case is recognized as Stone v Carey et al, U.S District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
