Real Sociedad have won the Copa del Rey in a very dramatic fashion by beating Atlético Madrid 4-3 on penalties after an exciting 2-2 draw at Estadio La Cartuja. The final erupted into life immediately as Ander Barrenetxea shocked Atlético with a looping header only 14 seconds after the start. Diego Simeone’s players reacted through Ademola Lookman, who shot in under pressure after the nice play from Antoine Griezmann and Marcos Llorente.
Before the interval, Sociedad were once again in front when Mikel Oyarzabal coolly scored a penalty after Juan Musso was penalized for a foul in the box 18. Atlético looked very determined in the second half and were finally rewarded with a goal scored by Julián Álvarez to make it 2-2, and extra time was needed.

There was great back-and-forth play with Álvarez hitting the woodwork, but no one scored a winner in normal time, so the game went to penalties.
Unai Marrero, the keeper, was the star by saving the penalties of Álvarez and Alexander Sørloth. Pablo Marín had the task of scoring the winner, which he did, and helped Real Sociedad secure their second Copa del Rey trophy in 6 years.
