After several Speculations and guesses as to who would pick up Fernando Santos’s
role, as Manager of Portugal’s national team after he resigned due to Portugal’s inability to make it to the world cup finals.
Former Belgium Head coach, Roberto Martinez has been appointed as Portugal’s new head coach. This announcement was made in Portugal’s National team handle.
Speaking about his appointment, Martinez has said that he’s very excited to take up the role of Manager of the Portugal National team, right from all the talks he knew that this would be something he’ll like to do.
He further said that he knows much is expected of him, but he believes that he and the great Portugal National team, with the backing of the federation, he’ll be able to achieve all the goals.
“I am very happy to represent one of the national teams with the best talent in the
world,” Martinez said.
“I am very excited to be here. From the first time I spoke with the president of the
federation, I knew this was a sporting project that would excite me.
“I understand there are great expectations and big objectives, but there is a great team of people at the federation and I have great excitement that together we can achieve those objectives.”
