Nollywood actress and filmmaker Mary Remmy Njoku has shared advice for men on supporting and loving their partners through the postpartum period.
In an Instagram post on Sunday, Njoku explained that postpartum depression involves grieving the loss of the woman they once were while learning to embrace the new identity they are becoming.
She emphasised that motherhood is an intense and transformative experience, urging men to adjust their expectations.
She wrote, “Postpartum depression is mourning the death of the girl you once were, and learning to embrace the birth of the woman you are becoming.
“Motherhood is as real as it gets.
“So, to truly love the mother of your children, stop trying to revive the girl she once was. She is gone. Instead, get to know the woman she has become.
“So, my dear men, look at the bright side: you get to love ‘different’ women, at different stages of your marriage or relationship. Brothers! Nature has given variety all along. Enjoy!!”
Njoku’s message highlights the importance of understanding and appreciating the changes women go through during and after motherhood.
