In a 3–1 win against the Vancouver Whitecaps in Florida, Lionel Messi was the major reason behind Inter Miami winning their first MLS Cup title. The Argentine maestro made two assists and was instrumental in another goal; thus, the fans at Chase Stadium in Fort Lauderdale went into a frenzy.
Through an Edier Ocampo own goal, Miami grabbed the lead early on, but Ali Ahmed’s shot in the second half saw Vancouver level. Shortly after the equaliser, Emmanuel Sabbi’s hit on both posts was a sign of Whitecaps dominance that was only brief.
Messi changed the entire scenario after he stole the ball from Andres Cubas in the middle of the field and then assisted Rodrigo De Paul for the goal that put Miami ahead again. During the extra time, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner provided the winning pass to Tadeo Allende, who scored the 4–1 and was later awarded the MLS Cup MVP.

It was a historical moment of triumph for co-owner David Beckham, who compared this victory to the fulfillment of his dream that had been kept for a long time. “Our fans’ promises we bring them success and these best players, and today we have accomplished it,” Beckham declared.
Moreover, the win was also a heartfelt send-off to lifelong teammates Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets, who will be retiring. Messi praises his ex-teammates at Barcelona by saying the night was “very special” for the club and its legends who are leaving.
