Lionel Messi has admitted he “wasn’t happy on a daily basis” during his two years at Paris Saint-Germain as he battles to enjoy his time in France.
Messi joined PSG in 2021 following his departure from Barcelona, and won two Ligue 1 titles while registering 67 goal involvements (32 goals, 35 assists) across 76 appearances. But even as he became a success, the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner admitted he struggled to adapt.
“I endured two years which were miserable. “It made me unhappy to get up every day, with the training, matches,” Messi said in an interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “I felt the calling to come to Inter Miami because it’s a growing club.
Messi joined the MLS side in July 2023, where he has flourished with 36 goals and 20 assists in 42 appearances. He now says he is excited for Miami to serve as the host city for the expanded Club World Cup later this year and called it a “wonderful opportunity” for the league’s growth.
