The Church of Christ Evangelical and Life Intercessory Ministry in Sabon Tasha, Kaduna State, has distributed grains to more than 1,000 underprivileged Muslims and Islamic schools.
This initiative, part of the church’s annual Ramadan support program, aims to promote peaceful coexistence and religious harmony in the region.
Pastor Dr. Yohanna Buru, the church’s General Overseer, emphasized that the grain distribution is a gesture of goodwill and appreciation for the support Muslims have shown to the Christian community. He highlighted the contributions of Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, a Muslim woman who regularly supports Christian widows and orphans during festive periods like Christmas, New Year, and Easter.
For almost two decades, the church has provided food items to less privileged Muslims during Ramadan. This year, the church distributed 30 bags of maize and millet, with plans to continue the initiative to ensure more Muslims can observe Ramadan without hardship. The program has expanded to five northern states, fostering unity and interfaith understanding.
Tips On Combating Price Hikes During Ramadan Given
Beyond food distribution, Pastor Buru urged traders to avoid excessive price hikes during the fasting period. He also mobilized 30 volunteer pastors and Imams for a week-long awareness campaign, encouraging fair pricing in local markets to alleviate the burden on families during Ramadan.
Mallam Hassan Lawal, a leader of the Association of Persons Living with Disabilities in Kaduna, reacted to the benevolent gesture by expressing gratitude for the church’s support. Similarly, Mallam Tukur Zubairu, head of the Kaduna State Blind Persons Association, commended the church’s consistent efforts to assist Muslims during Ramadan.
Why It Matters
The church’s benevolent gesture is serving as a model for interfaith partnership, especially in such a country as Nigeria where religious conflict and wars are common.
By supporting Muslims during Ramadan and acknowledging the contributions of individuals like Hajiya Ramatu Tijjani, the church for its part, is strengthening bonds of unity and mutual respect in Kaduna State.
