The eldest son of the late highlife music icon Mike Ejeagha has revealed that the family buried the veteran within 24 hours of his passing, strictly adhering to his final instructions.
In a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Enugu, the son, Emmanuel Ejeagha, disclosed that his father had insisted he should not be embalmed after death. The family honored that request.
According to NAN, the legendary musician was interred on Saturday at his ancestral compound in Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, located in the Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu State—just a day after he died peacefully on Friday night at the age of 95.
Emmanuel, who is the first son, emphasized that the decision was based on a directive his father had long given him. “I contacted members of my family and informed them that my father made a wish that he should be laid to rest 24 hours after his death,” he stated.
He explained further that a meeting was convened with members of the kindred, and even the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, was notified. “They all consented that whatever was his wish should be kept,” Emmanuel noted.
He also stressed the importance of respecting an elder’s dying wish, stating, “There are a lot of consequential results if an elder said something and otherwise was done.”
He added that official funeral plans and further arrangements would be announced in due course.
