Former Super Eagles captain Mikel Obi has dropped a bombshell, revealing that he was offered performance-enhancing substances during his time at Chelsea. The shocking admission comes amid the suspension of Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk, who failed a drugs test and is currently under investigation by the Football Association.
Speaking on the Obi One Podcast, Mikel revealed how a number of people came to him promising that some sort of ‘substance‘ would up his performance. He admitted the pressure on professional footballers is huge, but said ultimately, a player has got to be responsible for their actions.
Mikel came out to support Mudryk, calling for the public not to judge him until the truth is proven. “For him and his family, I hope he is innocent,” Mikel said, while underscoring the need to be careful with what players ingest.
The news has revived discussions about the extreme pressures on athletes and what needs to be done to address doping in football.
