Mohammad Abacha, the son of the late military head of state, Sani Abacha, has won the governorship ticket for Kano state in the primaries of the people’s democratic party.
He defeated his opponent, Ja’afar Sani with a 26 votes difference. Abacha got a total of 736 votes from the delegates while Sani got 710 votes.
Although seven candidates had been cleared by the party for the governorship ticket only the two candidates; Abacha and Sani, turned up for the primaries. The returning officer, Hajiya Amina Garba, declared Abacha as the winner in the early morning of Thursday 26th of May, 2022.
The process was said to be free and fair by Alhaji Mohammed Jamu, the Chairman of the Electoral Committee, as it was also observed by security operatives and officers of INEC.
