Since the controversial death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, also known as Mohbad, on September 12, 2023, the life of show promoter Samson Balogun, popularly known as Sam Larry, has changed drastically.
During their investigation into Mohbad’s death, police identified Sam Larry and Mohbad’s former record label boss, Naira Marley, as persons of interest.
Both individuals were subsequently arrested and remanded at the Lagos State Police Command’s Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department in Panti, Yaba.
Chief Magistrate Adeola Olatunbosun approved the police request to detain Larry and Marley for 21 days to assist with the investigation.
They were eventually released on bail in November, but the incident continues to haunt both parties. Whenever Larry posts on social media, fans of the late Mohbad often respond with curses.
Recently, Larry was involved in an accident in Ibeju Lekki, Lagos. Instead of sympathy, many netizens cursed him. One commenter, Rosythrone, wrote, “I know my God will complete it soon. He is not a God of half job.”
Even during his recent Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca, Larry received harsh comments. One user, tonia.gram_, wrote, “Sam Larry thinks Nigerians have forgiven him. Nice outfit, by the way; help us put cotton wool in your nostrils.”
Effedeborah commented, “This guy should just stay off social media because I don’t think the hate will ever stop.”
Larry has also faced the spread of fake information about him online. In February 2024, a false story claimed he and his family had died in a car accident. Larry debunked the news on Instagram, assuring everyone that he and his family were safe.
Mohbad’s mother also alleged that her son did not have peace because of the actions of Sam Larry and Naira Marley.
She said, “Mohbad did not know peace throughout his lifetime. He was always going from one problem to another in the hands of Naira Marley and Sam Larry.”
