Morocco produced a no-nonsense performance to win the bronze medal in the men’s football tournament at the Paris 2024 Olympics, outclassing Egypt 6-0. Right from the word go, it was the Atlas Lions who dominated the show, with Soufiane Rahimi turning out to be the standout player in the match.

Rahimi, superb throughout the tournament, added a brace to take his personal tally to eight, while also becoming the first player to score in six consecutive Olympic matches. The dominant start of Morocco into this event was anything but subtle, as Abde Ezzalzouli opened the scoring with a great strike from the left side of the area. Not long after, Morocco surged again—this time through Rahimi, whose header was perfect, putting them firmly in control.

This joy did not last, for Morocco was now well in front with a 3-0 lead as the game saw Bilal El Khannouss get a well-placed shot from the edge of the box, virtually sealing Egypt’s fate at nearly halftime.

The second period was all Moroccan onslaught. Rahimi turned provider, setting Akram Nakach with the fourth in the 64th minute. Achraf Hakimi rounded out the convincing win with a beautiful 30-yard free-kick to complete the rout 6-0.

The victory is the best ever performance of Morocco in Olympic football, with it making the North Africans the fourth African nation to finish third at the men’s tournament. The heavy defeat brought a disappointing end to Egypt’s Olympic campaign, exiting without a medal.
