At Old Trafford, Manchester United dominated the first half and won 2-0 against Sunderland, achieving their third Premier League (PL) home win in a row for the first time in over two years.

New goalkeeper Senne Lammens was given his debut by Ruben Amorim, but it was Sunderland’s Robin Roefs who took the early spotlight with a series of saves that kept his team in the game. Roefs could not do anything about Mason Mount’s first goal in the eighth minute, with the midfielder neatly slotting the lower corner from Bryan Mbeumo’s cut-back.

United, led by their youngest player from Chelsea, were set alight by Mount’s first Old Trafford goal, and before long Roefs was kept busy with shots from Amad Diallo, Mbeumo, and Bruno Fernandes, but Benjamin Šeško eventually made it 0-2, curling the ball home from close range after Sunderland had failed to clear Diogo Dalot’s long throw.

Le Bris changed things up just before halftime, bringing in Dan Ballard whose header went just off target as well as Granit Xhaka who tried his luck from quite a distance but Lammens was able to save it. Nevertheless, after the break, Sunderland ceased to be a threat with only Eliezer Mayenda and Chemsdine Talbi getting late opportunities to score against United’s debutant keeper.

This match has thus seen Amorim join the ranks of the most successful managers by becoming the first to surpass the 50 wins milestone since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, while also keeping their unbeaten streak in the English Premier League against teams coming from lower divisions at 25 matches.
