Jose Mourinho commented on the quality he has in Real Madrid’s ranks following Los Blancos’ concluding pre-season fixture of a 3-0 thumping of Schalke.
Kylian Mbappe’s first pre-season outing resulted in a goal after he netted early on before efforts from Dean Huijsen and Carlos Esp wrapped up the victory for a Madrid side who conclude their quartet of friendly contests in Spain with an undefeated record of two wins and one draw.
The opening goal came in the seventh minute as Mbappe latched onto a misplaced back-pass for his initial goal in any pre-season match since 2017, and Huijsen soon increased Real Madrid’s lead by finishing a header from Arda Guler’s corner.

Esp added a late third goal following the interval when converting a ball that was played across him by Carreras and gave Los Blancos a deserved win. “At this moment, it’s difficult to talk individually because we are growing as a team,” Mourinho admitted on Real Madrid TV.
“Here we only have good players, very good players and very very very good players.” Mourinho detailed the management of playing time via the club’s sports science program that ensures the optimal individual allocation based on fitness data and reports on specific player outputs.
Next up for Los Blancos and Mourinho in August is their league opener versus Espanyol on Saturday.
