The decision to have Jose Mourinho condemn refereeing during Real Madrid’s 2-1 defeat to Atletico Madrid has been allegedly endorsed by La Liga’s Technical Committee of Referees (CTA).
As reported by AS, the CTA think Atletico midfielder Kang-In Lee should have been sent off for his first-half challenge on Federico Valverde. Lee made dangerous contact with the Real Madrid captain’s ankle by studs, but referee Miguel ngel Ortiz Arias let the challenge go and VAR did not intervene.
Mourinho condemned the challenge when addressing the media after the game, as he did with Cristian Romero’s tackle on Jude Bellingham – which he also thought should have been a red card.
Sources said the CTA deemed the Romero decision as more complex because, although Bellingham was originally booked by the referee and the card was later changed via consultation with VAR due to mistaken identity, the Real Madrid forward was not awarded a penalty. The committee confirmed the decision to red-card Real Madrid defender Dean Huijsen.
After Huijsen was sent off for Atletico, the visitors went up the other end and scored from the spot through Grimaldo before David netted his second. Antonio Rudiger responded for Madrid but they could not find the leveller.
