Amidst growing concerns, a cloud of controversy hangs over the untimely demise of young artist Mohbad. His death on September 12 remains shrouded in mystery, with details of the autopsy and his impending burial still veiled in secrecy.

In a bold move, the House of Representatives has entered the fray, seeking justice and compensation for the late singer’s musical contributions. The controversial figure, Azeez Fashola, better known as Naira Marley, has been summoned to appear before the House. This summons is part of an effort to secure compensation and royalties for the late Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, in recognition of his artistic works.

The House’s Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance has also extended an invitation to Jiggy Adeoye, the manager of the late singer, for an interactive session scheduled for Tuesday, October 31. This session is expected to shed light on crucial aspects of this unfolding saga.

Mohbad, a former signee of Naira Marley’s record label, met a tragic end at the tender age of 27. This tragedy prompted the House to take action, triggered by a motion put forward by Babajimi Benson of the APC, Lagos. Benson’s motion called for a reevaluation of the laws governing the entertainment industry, including copyright regulations. Concerns were voiced regarding the contractual obligations that artists are often bound by.

During a passionate debate on the matter, lawmakers made a commitment to secure just compensation and royalties for Mohbad’s musical creations. The House has also pledged to closely monitor the investigation surrounding his death and the royalties owed to him.

In a letter dated October 26, 2023, the House’s Committee on Justice, Youth, and Legislative Compliance formally invited both Naira Marley and Mohbad’s manager to an interactive session. This session aims to gain insights into the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s royalties and other benefits, as well as their interactions with relevant copyright organizations. This information will guide the House in its future legislative actions.

In a bid to unravel the truth and bring justice to the late artist, the House of Representatives is set to embark on this journey of inquiry and discovery. The upcoming meeting on October 31, 2023, stands as a pivotal moment in this evolving controversy.
