The National Population Commission -NPC has begun its trial census in anticipation of next year’s nationwide housing and population census. Speaking to news reporters in Abuja, NPC Chairman, Mr. Nasir Isa-Kwarra, confessed that the trial census would commence from June 27 to July 30, with coverage of about 7,718 listed areas to be covered.
He further impressed that the result of the 2022 trial census would not compose the basis of the main census that would be held next year, disclosing that the trial census was only a dress rehearsal of sorts for the census.
The trial census will be conducted in specific areas as one Local Government Area will be fully covered in one state in each of the 6 geo-political zones and one supervisory area in three LGAs in each of the 3 senatorial districts in the remaining 30 states in the country and the Federal Capital Territory; according to the NPC Chairman.
The 6 local government areas which he said will be fully enumerated or highlighted were, Toungo Local Government Area in Adamawa State – North East; Daura Local Government Area in Katsina State, North West; Karu Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, North Central. The other States were, Imeko-Afon Local Government Area in Ogun State, southwest; Idemili South Local Government Area in Anambra State, southeast; Brass Local Government Area in Bayelsa State South-South.
