Three Cross River State University students have died in an auto crash while traveling to their respective homes after their school announced a two-week closure to stop students from taking part in the hardship protest scheduled for Thursday, August 1.
The students who boarded a bus, had been on their way to Ogoja in the northern part of the state when the tragic accident occurred on Tuesday afternoon.
According to reports, the accident occurred near Ikom in the central part of the state, close to the Calabar–Ikom highway.
Ndoma Akunobor, an eyewitness who was an occupant of the bus, had said that the three students who lost their lives were from the departments of Microbiology, Plants Science and Biotechnology.
At the time of filing this report, the names of the students have yet to be ascertained.
The management of the university, had earlier issued a circular orderinb for the closure of the institution for two weeks starting from 30th July to 12th August, ahead of the nationwide hunger protest slated to begin on 1st August.
