The North East Governors Forum , NEGF, has revealed that it is contemplating on establishing an independent power generation company to provide electricity for the people in the region.
The Borno State NEGF chairman and Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum had been the one to make the disclosure during the opening session of the forum’s 8th annual meeting in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
Zulum had also stated that the forum was also mulling over the possible establishment of a railway transportation system to connect states in the region for an easier transport of goods and services.
Zulum had said:
“It is of utmost importance for us in the North East to collaborate and work towards establishing an independent power supply and rail transportation,” he said.
Note that NEGF has been described by Zulum to be a platform where challenges affecting the region are deliberated on.
The final meeting of the forum was held last year in Gombe State.
The 8th meeting had been well attended by the governors of Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, and Yobe States respectively while the governors of Taraba and Gombe were duly represented by their deputy governors.
