NELFUND Approves Immediate Student Loan Disbursements in Landmark Decision

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has approved the disbursement of student loans, as announced in a statement on the agency’s social media X account. This significant decision was reached during NELFUND’s inaugural board meeting on Wednesday.

Leadership and Meeting Outcomes

Led by Chairman Mr. Jim Ovia, the board approved the immediate disbursement of student loans to successful applicants. The press release, titled “NELFUND Holds Inaugural Board Meeting as Student Loan Disbursement Tops Agenda,” was signed by Nasir Ayitogo, Head of Media and Public Relations. The meeting, attended by the fund’s management and representatives of member organizations, also set the stage for future initiatives to support students across various disciplines.

The approval of these loans is a critical step in empowering Nigeria’s youth through education. The financial aid will help them focus on their studies without having to worry about funds. This initiative implemented by the Tinubu administration is commendable amidst the removal of the education subsidy by the same administration, which caused a drastic increase in fees and educational burden of students and Guardian alike

President Tinubu had previously signed the Student Loans (Access to Higher Education) Act (Repeal and Re-Enactment) Bill, 2024, into law on April 3, 2024.
