The 2021 African Cup of Nations ball used in the final game between Senegal and Egypt has been paid for by Brazilian and Paris Saint-German star man, Neymar Junior.
In a bid to raise financial assistance for the kids affected by HIV and Cancer in Africa, the final ball was put up for auction by Senegal and PSG midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye after it has been signed on by all members of the Senegalese team.
Alongside the auctioned ball were also Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe’s signed jerseys, and Sadio Mane’s signed jersey and cleats. Real Madrid’s in-form striker, Karim Benzema, and both PSG’s Keylor Navas and Marco Verratti’s signed jerseys were also on sale at the event.
Neymar and Mbappe went head to head in the bid for the AFCON ball but the Brazilian and former Barcelona playmaker won the bid and paid a whooping €160,000 for the ball. The target is to raise two million euros for the kids in Africa.
Gracing charity events and supporting charity is not a new thing for Neymar as the 30-year-old has been supporting the poor children in Brazil with his family charity foundation that’s based in Sao Paulo in Brazil.
It was also revealed back in 2020 that Neymar Jr was the anonymous donor that donated $950,000 to those affected by the global pandemic in Brazil.
The event was hosted in Paris by Idrissa Gueye in collaboration with the “For Hope” foundation and was graced by over 270 big guns in the footballing world.
