The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, has appointed Augustine Eguavoen as permanent head coach of the Super Eagles after a brief stint as an interim manager. The 58-year-old was named following a recommendation from the NFF’s Technical and Development Sub-Committee, announced Thursday.
Eguaovoen, the immediate past handler of the Super Eagles, had been returned to head the team in their two recent 2025 AFCON qualifying matches. He had led Nigeria to a convincing 3-0 win over the Benin Republic and a goalless draw against Rwanda to sit atop their group with four points.
The experienced coach, who also doubles as the NFF’s Technical Director, will be handing the team till October in their AFCON qualifier against Libya. His backroom staff include Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec.
The move shuts speculations linking other candidates to the job as the NFF opted for continuity within the national team setup. Eguavoen, with his vast experience and closeness to Nigerian football, is an essential leader who would help steer the Super Eagles toward securing a spot in the 2025 AFCON.
