The Communication Director of Nigerian Football Federation, Ademola Olajire, says he is not aware of the sacking of Super Eagle’s coach Gernot Rohr.
His statement reads; “I am not aware of Rohr’s sack because there are procedures for doing things at the federation. Before such decision could be taken, there will be a meeting of NFF board and a release issued to the public. Right now, i am not aware of the sack. The online platform you claimed reported the story cannot announce his sack without confirmation from the NFF.”
My take is, if i was Gernot Rohr, i would start packing my bags right about now, because when statements like this starts coming out there is only one meaning. it is only a matter of time before the actual sacking is announced. This is nothing new. Anyone who follows football knows that this is the format by which coaches are fired. There is first a denying statement from the powers that be, or there is a statement of support for the coach – either of these is no good news for the coach.

Gernot Rohr will be sacked – we can start the countdown. It is even more apparent from the scattered performances of the Super Eagles in the World Cup qualifiers so far.
Some would argue that NFF should allow him take the team to the World cup if he qualifies them, which is understandable. But that is not necessarily how it works in football. We have seen in countless occasions where someone does the hard work of taking the team through qualifying rounds, only for someone else to lead the team in the tournament proper.

Well, for now, all we can do is wish Mr. Rohr all the luck in the world. He will need it from now onward.
