After winning the last Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon), Nigeria’s football team draws a rival, Zambia, in the group stage of the 2026 Wafcon following the official draw done by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).
The Super Falcons, who, in July, won a record 10th title by defeating Morocco 2–1 in Rabat, will be in Group C with Egypt and Malawi (who are making their debut in the tournament). Earlier on, Nigeria routed Zambia 5–0 on their way to the title; thus, the two sides meeting again is a highly anticipated reunion.
Host nation Morocco will face their North African neighbours Algeria, Senegal, and Kenya in Group A. Group B consists of 2022 winner South Africa, who will face the Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania, while Group D sees Ghana against Cameroon, Mali, and debutants Cape Verde.
Wafcon 2026 will take place from 17 March to 3 April, with the venues being Rabat, Casablanca, and Fes. Caf president Patrice Motsepe also stated that the prize money will be increased and players’ earnings improved as women’s football is experiencing a boom across the continent.
