Nigeria’s senior female national basketball team, D’Tigress, on Sunday, defeated Canada in their last group game at the ongoing 2024 Olympic Games, booking a ticket into the quarterfinals with an impressive performance, beating their adversary 79-70.
The West Africans appeared to have expressed the intent right from tip-off when they led by a massive 10 points at one time. Canadians got their act together and, though defeated in the first session, brought the deadlock to 18-18 by the first quarter. D’Tigress regrouped during the half-time rest to a 4-point deficit, 37-41.
They stepped up in the third quarter, where the Nigerians bounced back and went on to take a flourished end to the period, leading 55-46. They continued that form in the final quarter to end victorious at 79 to 70.
Those settings by the head coach, Rena Wakama, coupled with a good performance, checked through to get into the knockout stages and validate further their claim on the Olympic stage.
