Lawan Jimeta Tanko, an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in Nigeria, Zone 5 (which includes Edo, Delta, and Bayelsa) Benin, has been confirmed dead.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Bauchi State Command, Ahmed Wakil confirmed his death via a terse WhatsApp message to The Punch Newspapers correspondents on Sunday, 12 February.
The message had read: “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. With a heavy heart but with total submission to the will of Almighty Allah, I wish to announce the death of A.I.G Lawan Tanko Jimeta who passed away at the Teaching Hospital, Benin Edo State, this morning after a short Illness.”
The deceased Assistant Inspector General had been a graduate of English Language from the University of Maiduguri after which he had pursued a master’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from the National Open University.
