A court in the United Kingdom has charged a Nigerian man, Olubunmi Abodunde, aged 48, for purportedly killing his wife after he suspected her of having extramarital affairs.
According to a report by Mail Online, the remanded suspect had beat his wife to death with his son’s skateboard, while police officers waited outside for permission from the higher-ups to go in.
Reports had further stated that the UK policemen had heard ‘a number of bangs’ inside the house that Abodunde was in, despite bail conditions imposed the day before that barred him from the residence due to his previous record of domestic violence.
When the police entered the home about 25 minutes later, they discovered his wife, named Taiwo Abodunde and aged 41, with her skull crushed in.
Mr Abodunde has been remanded and he will be sentenced on May 9, 2024.
During the hearing, the court discovered that the couple, who had three children had arrived in the UK from Nigeria in 2022.
A post-mortem examination eventually revealed that the deceased, Taiwo had been choked until she fell unconscious, then stamped on until her ribs broke, before her husband used the skateboard to finish her off.
The blows had reportedly been so violent that the skateboard was damaged.
It was said that the suspect and the deceased had had clashes over the house bills as well as arguments over purported affairs.
The suspect, Abodunde, whom Suffolk Police have probed for domestic abuse was to stand murder trial but he had changed his plea to guilty after the jury was sworn in yesterday.
Meanwhile, the Suffolk Constabulary have given themselves over to the Independent Office of Police Conduct, and the three officers are now under investigation.
Reports have said that Abodunde has had a history of jealousy and suspicion and has reportedly constantly accused his wife of having affairs. He had been investigated by police several times over alleged domestic violence incidents before his wife’s death.
He was arrested on April 27, 2023 when police arrived at the couple’s home in Newmarket, Suffolk, and found Mrs Abodunde with a broken lip.
Later that day, he was freed on police bail with the condition that he stayed away from the marital home and never approached his wife.
